REFLECTIONS ON THE UGANDAN HOUSEHELP WHO BEAT UP A BABY

Last week I received a very disturbing video on my Whats app. It was a video of a house help in Uganda beating and torturing a little girl. It is a terrible video. It took me two days to watch it to the end, so please, if you are like me, do not watch it because you will cry your heart out if not puke your guts out!
Before watching this video, I had toyed around with the idea of buying nanny cams. I had sought the advice of a friend of mine Terry in a previous post on the blog. She begged me to buy nanny cams for my peace of my mind but I thought that it was a bit too extreme at the time. I still think it is a bit extreme but for my peace of mind, I think I will just get them. I want to know that my baby is safe even though I know that my nanny could never do such a thing.

Other than change my mind on investing on nanny cams, this video reminded me to spend more time with my baby girl and I urge other parents to do the same. I think by doing so, you’ll notice little things e.g bruises, that you would not have otherwise noticed.

Some times, some of the young girls or women we hire as house helps or nannies take out their frustrations especially those caused by their employers, on the children. So let us try to reduce the risk of that happening by being kind and respectful.
