It is Pink October- Pinktober, breast cancer awareness month. A month dedicated to educating the society on breast cancer, providing support to those affected by the disease and raising funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.
The month is almost coming to an end. Have you touched your breasts? I have! But that was after reading an article that literally ordered me to touch my breasts to feel for any lumps. I must confess, touching my breasts with the purpose of searching for an unusual swelling was scary.
As I touched them, I tried to imagine different scenarios that could result from me finding a lump and I was brought to tears. I could not imagine my life without my breasts, how would I breastfeed my little girl? I could not imagine going through chemotherapy and losing all my beautiful hair. I could not imagine how much my mom would cry and my dad would worry. Everything was just too painful to imagine. So I can only imagine what women who have breast cancer go through! It must be very difficult!
So if you are in Dar es Salaam, let us support them on the 26th of October, 2014 from 6.00 am at Ocean Road Cancer Institute. Let us walk with them and in support of them. You can register at any Shoppers plaza. For those not in Dar es Salaam and would like to show support, please get more information from www.breastcancertz.orgor email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Let us join in to save the tatas!
